Victorian Farm (2009)

S1E1 Episode 1

The team settles into a long-abandoned Victorian smallholding on the Acton Scott estate, untouched for nearly fifty years. Their initial focus is on revamping the old cottage. As new residents, they assist in threshing the wheat harvested last summer, becoming acquainted with steam-powered machinery for the first time. Alex tries his hand at sowing wheat using a horse-drawn method. Meanwhile, Ruth and Peter set up a cooking range in the cottage and venture to the canals to gather coal. With apple harvest season upon them, Alex and Peter experiment with cider-making, while Ruth tackles the art of Victorian preserves and prepares her first meal on the range. As the farm welcomes its first residents—a flock of Shropshire ewes—the team quickly learns the ropes of shepherding.
