Today, Paris boasts 2,185 monuments, making it the most visited capital city in the world! However, back in the 1st century BCE, the area was the territory of the Gallic Parisii tribe until it was overtaken by the Romans, who transformed it into the Roman city of Lutetia. Remnants of this period, such as a forum, an amphitheater, and Roman baths, can still be explored today.
