Taking Urraca's counsel to heart, Alfonso devises a final enticing strategy to persuade Ruy to remain in León with him: he plans to cancel Jimena's engagement to Orduño and endorse her union with Ruy instead. While this arrangement gives Ruy everything he desires, it comes with the heavy price of betraying Sancho. In the meantime, the Arabs, eager to create chaos among the Christian realms, inform Sancha that the King has been poisoned.
