On August 6, 2011, a U.S. Boeing CH-47 Chinook was downed while on a mission to support an Army Rangers unit in Wardak province, located west of Kabul, Afghanistan. The helicopter was transporting a rapid response team when it was struck, leading to a devastating crash that claimed the lives of all 38 individuals aboard.
