In the 1980s, Paramount launched a trilogy of interconnected Star Trek films that achieved remarkable box-office results. The first installment, The Wrath of Khan, featured Ricardo Montalban reprising his role as Khan, a classic antagonist from the original series. This was succeeded by The Search for Spock, which Leonard Nimoy directed. He also took the helm for The Voyage Home, which ultimately became the most successful film in the Star Trek franchise at that time.
