A group of lawmen abandons their search for the two outlaws, Vance and his accomplice. While scouting the area, they stumble upon the lifeless body of a lawyer who was ambushed by a band of Indians. Seizing the opportunity, Vance opts to impersonate the deceased lawyer, Jonathan Williams, and take on his identity.
