In May 1988, detectives are called to the scene after the body of 86-year-old Alice Covington is found in her car near Raleigh, North Carolina. The isolated setting and peculiar "vampire-like" burn marks on her neck instantly raise red flags. As the investigation unfolds, they learn that Alice had been seen in a confrontation with a female nurse just before her disappearance. A bank teller informs them that a $2500 check from Alice's account was cashed at the drive-thru by the nurse and another woman. After interviewing Alice's friends, they zero in on Carlette Parker, her homecare nurse, who has a troubling history of exploiting her elderly patients.
