Del Packer, a renowned baseball player, finds himself drafted into the army and assigned as a substitute in a military unit. As Kelly tries to organize a baseball game against a nearby company to earn some cash, Billy, an ardent baseball enthusiast, is thrilled to be serving alongside one of his idols. However, Packer is grappling with personal struggles that his fellow squad members overlook due to their admiration. Only Saunders seems to recognize that something is amiss with the celebrated athlete.
