As heroin makes its debut on the streets of Manchester, CID and DCI Hunt are determined to track down those responsible for the smuggling, distribution, and the violence that follows. Things take a turn when Annie is abducted by the traffickers. While Sam delves into the origins of this dangerous drug, he becomes inexplicably attracted to a young woman who witnessed a shooting linked to heroin. Unbeknownst to him, she is the mother of his future girlfriend. Meanwhile, Sam's 'visions' reveal that his girlfriend has chosen to stop visiting him in the hospital, unable to keep waiting for him to regain consciousness.
