Mike is dreading the thought of spending Christmas alone, but Rachel's invitation might just change that. As the holiday spirit takes hold, Charlie and Ash find a chance to bury the hatchet. However, the season's cheer is shattered when a young woman is rushed into casualty, violently ill near a railway line—was it just too much to drink, or something far more sinister? The shift begins with tragedy: two young boys die, and a policeman's passing devastates both his wife and his lover. Two teenage girls arrive with their own battles—one pregnant, the other battling an eating disorder—leaving their shocked parents reeling.
