S9E7 The Prefabricated house, Kent
Mimi De Costa and her husband Andre, a doctor, had hunted for years to find the perfect stretch of land before stumbling upon a bungalow in Kent. They purchased the property primarily for its grounds—12 acres of organic pasture and woodland—and began envisioning a new home for their sons, Sean and Tye, designed around a more sustainable lifestyle. What they're constructing, however, bears little resemblance to the original bungalow. It’s a compact, modular structure featuring floor-to-ceiling glass walls, with cedar cladding that will naturally weather to a silvery grey, blending seamlessly with the surrounding oak trees. By prefabricating most of the house, they aim to streamline assembly on-site. Yet despite its precision-made components, this is far from a standard kit home.
