The cooler weather has painting contractor Jim Clark racing to finish the exterior. On the third floor, Norm learns Tom is out for emergency knee surgery after a recent injury. Foreman John Sheridan updates Norm on the remaining tasks. Steve meets interior designer Manuel de Santaren to tour a similar Colonial Revival's living room. Later, Manuel’s partner Carolina Tress-Balsbaugh joins Steve and homeowner Kim Whittemore at the project house to unveil their design plans. Flooring contractor Patrick Hunt finds three different wood species—heart pine, beech, and oak—and shows Norm how to use a router to patch holes from old radiators. In the backyard, Roger has planted rows of spruce and white pine for shade and privacy.
