Steve Thomas re-creates a 1920s commute by train to Winchester, Massachusetts, where the town still feels much like the early 1900s. Master carpenter Norm Abram meets him at the station in a classic Ford Model A “Woody.” A short drive through town brings them to a 1922 Colonial Revival home in the charming “Flats” neighborhood. Out back, new homeowner and master gardener Kim Whittemore is pruning perennials. Inside, the first floor is tired but well-maintained and ready for updates. Meanwhile, Tom Silva, Norm, and Richard Trethewey inspect for trouble spots. Convinced the house has good bones and needs mostly surface work, Steve and Norm welcome Kim and Bruce Leasure to the This Old House family.
