Quatermass (1979)
S1E1 Ringstone Round
In a grim near-future dominated by street gangs, Professor Quatermass faces danger from thugs while heading to a television studio for commentary on an international satellite event featuring a US-Soviet space link-up, reminiscent of the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission. He is saved by young space scientist Joe Kapp (Simon MacCorkindale), who is also set to participate in the program. During the broadcast, Quatermass criticizes the mission as wasteful and likely doomed for lack of tangible benefits. Soon after, unexpected malfunctions lead to the mission's catastrophic failure, claiming all lives. Quatermass and Kapp retreat to Kapp’s secluded lab near the Ringstone stone circle, where a group of fervent zealots approaches, intent on seizing the site for their mysterious purposes.
