The survivors are left puzzled about the motives behind Charlie and Claire's abduction and who is responsible for it. A search party sets off into the perilous jungle in hopes of finding them. Their attention turns to Ethan Rom (guest-star William Mapother), who has been revealed as someone not on the ill-fated flight. Meanwhile, Jack grapples with personal struggles concerning his father, while Boone and Locke stumble upon yet another mystery hidden on the island.
