During a visit to a horse-breeding farm, Peter attracts the attention of 22-year-old Blaine McDermott, who employs charm and manipulation to get him alone, leading to an unexpected kiss despite Peter's hesitance. He insists he is engaged to Christine, even though their romance has dwindled to mere friendship. When Christine visits the farm with Peter, Blaine endangers her by putting her on a spooked horse, resulting in an injury. Peter's discovery of Blaine in his bed prompts him to end things by contacting her parents. Meanwhile, David Endicott faces marital strain due to his recent job loss and his struggles with impotence, leaving his wife Gail suspicious of infidelity.
