Former Prime Minister Eva Vogler creates a scene at the Nobel Banquet, then vanishes into a stark desert that feels like reality itself. There, she meets her own double and a cast of strange figures, including a possessed man impersonating her husband. Throughout the film, voicemails pile up on her answering machine, hinting at what drove her to the scandal. The doppelgängers threaten everyone lost in the desert, as they aim to erase their originals and build a metaverse without human pain.
