Long Live the Republic (1965)
Oldrich is the smallest and weakest in his village, tormented by his father and picked on by the other boys. Yet he possesses a vivid imagination and a scrappy resilience that they can't crush. The village is in chaos as Nazi occupiers have just fled and the Red Army approaches. Oldrich weaves through the confusion and terror, absorbing his share of hits but always staying just out of reach.
