Stephen C. Meyer
Stephen C. Meyer is an American author and a prominent voice in the conversation surrounding the origins of life. A former university professor, he has become a leading figure in the intelligent design movement and co-founded the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture, a think tank that challenges purely materialistic accounts of biological origins.
Meyer’s career is marked by his work in the philosophy of science. He earned his Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of science from Cambridge University, focusing on the origin of life and the role of information in biology. His 2009 book, *Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design*, became a national bestseller and was named one of the year’s top books by the *Times Literary Supplement*. In it, he argues that the digital code found in DNA points to an intelligent cause.
He followed this with *Darwin’s Doubt: The Explosive Origin of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design* (2013), which examines the Cambrian explosion and critiques the explanatory power of neo-Darwinian evolution. His latest book, *Return of the God Hypothesis* (2021), makes a philosophical and scientific case for a designing intelligence behind the universe. Meyer has been featured in debates, documentaries, and academic journals, solidifying his influence in discussions of science, philosophy, and faith.
