Val Garland
Val Garland is a renowned make-up artist based in London, originally hailing from Bristol. Her creative journey began in Sydney, Australia, where she trained as a hair colourist. However, her fascination with vibrant hues soon transitioned her focus from hair to make-up, propelling her to the forefront of the industry in Australia.
In 1994, Garland returned to London, where she has spent the past two decades working on a diverse array of projects. Her portfolio includes avant-garde runway shows for iconic designers like Alexander McQueen, as well as high-profile celebrity shoots featuring supermodels such as Kate Moss. She has lent her artistic touch to prestigious publications including Vogue, Dazed & Confused, i-D, and Visionaire, collaborating with renowned photographers and artists like Nick Knight, Mario Testino, John Galliano, Chloë Sevigny, and Björk.
Garland's exceptional talent was recognized in 2004 when she won the Pantene Pro-V Make-up Artist of the Year Award. In 2017, she achieved another milestone by becoming the first L'Oréal Paris Global Make-up Director. Her book, *Validated*, published in 2018, showcases pivotal moments in her career through a collection of striking images.
In 2019, she took on the role of judge on the BBC series *Glow Up*, which showcases emerging talent in the make-up artistry world, further solidifying her status as a leading figure in the industry.
