Ananda Lewis
Ananda Lewis, born on March 21, 1973, is a multifaceted American television personality, carpenter, former model, and dedicated social activist. She first gained prominence as an MTV veejay from the late 1990s until 2001, where she captivated audiences with her charisma on shows like Total Request Live and Hot Zone. During her tenure, she hosted significant discussions on pressing issues, including two forums on school violence in the wake of the Columbine tragedy, and tributes for the late singer Aaliyah. For her impactful work, she received an NAACP Image Award in 2001 for the MTV special True Life: I Am Driving While Black.
Lewis began her career while studying at Howard University, where she appeared in the music video "Baby, I'm Yours" by Shai. After considering a master's degree in education, she shifted gears to host BET's Teen Summit, engaging millions of viewers in conversations about youth issues, earning her an NAACP Image Award for this role as well.
In 2001, she transitioned from MTV to launch her own talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show, though it lasted only one season. She later became a correspondent for The Insider from 2004 to 2005 and hosted the 2019 revival of TLC's While You Were Out.
