Robert Sheldon
Dr. Robert Sheldon bridges two worlds that rarely meet: the precision of space physics and the depth of theological inquiry. He earned a PhD in Physics from the University of Maryland and an MA in Religion from Westminster Seminary, a combination that informs both his scientific and philosophical work.
For more than forty years, Sheldon has shaped NASA missions, contributing instrumentation and expertise to the WIND, AMPTE, SOHO, POLAR, and RBSP programs. He invented the HELIX Ultra High Resolution Mass Spectrometer and holds a patent for microsatellite telecommunications. On NASA’s POLAR mission, he made a key discovery: the Greater Cusp Accelerator, a mechanism driving energetic particle phenomena.
Today, Sheldon works as an analyst and physicist at Torch Technologies, where he develops advanced photonic and sensing technologies, including Lidar systems, magnetic levitation, and optical hardware. He holds a Secret security clearance and has designed and operated cutting-edge labs for the Department of Defense. His forward-looking research includes fission-fusion hybrid rockets and electric plasma propulsion, earning multiple NASA NIAC proposals.
Sheldon has also taught physics and astronomy from high school through graduate levels. He authored *The Long Ascent: Genesis 1-11 in Science and Myth*, a three-volume work weaving archaeology, mythology, and biblical scholarship. He is a member of SPIE, AIAA, and AGU.
