Kevin Yagher
Kevin Yagher, born on June 23, 1962, is a renowned American special effects artist celebrated for his innovative contributions to the horror genre, particularly known for crafting Freddy Krueger's iconic makeup and designing The Crypt Keeper creature.
Yagher is the founder of Kevin Yagher Productions, which has produced remarkable special effects for numerous films, including notable titles like A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, and Child's Play, where he met his wife, Catherine Hicks. His work also spans acclaimed films such as Face/Off, Enemy of the State, Volcano, Starship Troopers, Conspiracy Theory, and Mission: Impossible 2, showcasing his versatility in the industry.
One of Yagher's most significant achievements is his design and execution of the infamous Chucky doll in Child's Play, collaborating closely with puppeteer Brock Winkless, who brought Chucky to life through puppetry in this film and its sequels.
In addition to his work in effects, Yagher directed Hellraiser: Bloodline, although he chose to use the pseudonym Alan Smithee due to dissatisfaction with the final cut. His creative prowess extends beyond horror, having worked with "Weird Al" Yankovic on various projects, creating memorable costumes and makeup effects for Yankovic's performances, including the fat suit for the "Fat" music video and Rambo-inspired prosthetics for UHF. Today, Yagher continues to lead his production company, contributing to the evolution of special effects in cinema.
