Rodney Alcala
Rodney James Alcala, born Rodrigo Jacques Alcala on August 23, 1943, and passing away on July 24, 2021, was an American serial killer and registered sex offender whose heinous acts shocked the nation. Alcala was convicted of five murders that took place in California between 1977 and 1979, for which he received a death sentence. In addition to these convictions, he pleaded guilty to two other murders in New York, resulting in a sentence of twenty-five years to life. Although he was also charged with one murder in Wyoming, those charges were ultimately dropped.
Alcala's criminal activities have been linked to at least nine confirmed murders, but estimates suggest the actual number of victims could be as high as 130, making him one of the most prolific killers in U.S. history.
In a chilling twist, Alcala gained notoriety beyond his crimes when he appeared as a contestant on the popular television show The Dating Game in 1978, where he won the affection of the bachelorette. This unsettling episode inspired the 2024 film "Woman of the Hour," which dramatizes Alcala's brief foray into the spotlight amidst his dark legacy. His life and actions have left an indelible mark on criminal history, serving as a grim reminder of the complexities of human behavior.
